You've decided you want to protect your vehicle—but now there's another question:
What should be installed first?
If you're considering Window Tint, Paint Protection Film, Windshield Protection Film, and Ceramic Coating, planning the entire project before the first installation can prevent unnecessary preparation and help each product perform as intended.
And yes—a vehicle can potentially have all four.
Can You Install PPF, Tint and Ceramic Coating?
Yes.
These products can work together because they protect different areas and perform different functions.
Window tint is installed on the interior side of automotive glass.
Paint Protection Film protects compatible exterior vehicle surfaces.
BRAY windshield protection film provides a sacrificial protective layer on the exterior windshield.
You can apply ceramic coating to appropriate exterior surfaces and compatible PPF.
The most important sequencing consideration is applying PPF and ceramic coating to the same exterior surface.
What Comes First: PPF or Ceramic Coating?
Install the PPF first.
PPF requires a properly prepared surface for adhesion. Installing ceramic coating first can create an unnecessary complication because the coating may need to be removed from areas receiving PPF.
If you're planning both services, the preferred sequence is generally:
Vehicle Inspection → Surface Preparation → Paint Correction if Needed → PPF → Ceramic Coating
This is why it's important to tell your installer about your complete vehicle protection plan before work begins.
Can Ceramic Coating Go Over PPF?
Yes, as long as you use compatible products.
PPF and ceramic coating perform different jobs.
Think of it this way:
PPF = physical protection.
It provides a film barrier intended to help protect against rock chips, road debris, scratches, and wear.
Ceramic coating = surface performance.
It can improve hydrophobic properties, enhance appearance, and make the surface easier to maintain.
Applying an appropriate ceramic coating over PPF can therefore provide benefits beyond using either product alone.
Can Ceramic Coating Go on Car Windows?
Yes, if you use a coating specifically designed or approved for automotive glass.
However, don't confuse a ceramic glass coating with ceramic window tint.
Ceramic window tint is an automotive film installed on the interior side of the glass to provide solar-performance benefits.
A ceramic coating applied to glass is a surface treatment generally used to improve water repellency and ease of cleaning.
And neither should be confused with windshield protection film, which provides a physical sacrificial layer on the exterior windshield.
Can You Have Window Tint and Windshield Protection Film?
Yes, depending on the specific products, vehicle, and applicable laws.
The two films serve very different purposes.
Window Tint: interior glass film for solar performance, UV protection, glare reduction, privacy, and appearance.
Windshield Protection Film: exterior film designed to help protect the windshield glass itself.
Installing one does not automatically eliminate the need or benefit of the other.
Where Does Windshield Protection Film Go in the Installation Order?
BRAY windshield protection film is applied to the exterior windshield, so its installation is separate from tint applied inside the vehicle.
If you're considering a complete protection package, we can plan windshield protection along with your PPF, window tint, and ceramic coating services.
The exact sequence and scheduling can vary depending on the vehicle and services selected.
Does a Brand-New Vehicle Need Paint Correction First?
Not always.
“New” does not automatically mean the paint is flawless.
A new vehicle may have been transported, washed at the dealership, stored outdoors, and handled before delivery. That can leave contamination, light scratches, or other imperfections.
The vehicle should therefore be inspected first.
If correction is needed, it makes sense to address those areas before covering them with PPF or applying a long-term coating. If the paint is already in appropriate condition, unnecessary correction isn't beneficial.
What If My Vehicle Already Has Ceramic Coating?
Tell us before scheduling PPF.
Existing ceramic coating may need to be removed from the surfaces receiving PPF so the film can properly adhere to the prepared surface.
If your vehicle already has ceramic coating but you're simply noticing reduced water behavior, a new coating may not be the first answer. Depending on its condition, a Boost Application may be appropriate to reactivate hydrophobic performance.
Can All Four Services Be Done During One Appointment?
Depending on the vehicle, selected coverage, and products, we can often coordinate multiple services in one appointment.
We offer appointments throughout the day, and many services allow for same-day pickup. More extensive projects—such as multiple protection services or Full Vehicle PPF—may require additional installation and curing time.
We'll set the expected completion schedule when you book your appointment so you know what to expect before dropping off your vehicle.
What Is the Best Order for a New Vehicle?
If you're considering comprehensive protection, start planning before applying anything to the vehicle.
A typical plan may look like:
1. Inspect and prepare the vehicle
Determine the condition of the paint and glass.
2. Correct paint where necessary
Address appropriate defects before covering or coating the surface.
3. Install Paint Protection Film
Choose Wear & Tear, Highway, Full Front, or Full Vehicle coverage.
4. Install windshield protection
Add BRAY protection to the exterior windshield when selected.
5. Install window tint
Select the appropriate 3M film based on performance, appearance, and preference.
6. Apply ceramic coating
Coat appropriate finished surfaces and compatible PPF.
The exact order of the glass services may change based on scheduling and the products selected. The key rule is to plan PPF before ceramic coating on surfaces receiving both.
